    can't start thunderbird

    Hi-ya,
    I've installed TB using both adept and the ubuntuzilla scripts, however it just won't start. Has anybody else had this problem and could you possibly suggest a solution?
    Cheers.

    Have you tried to start it from the command line?

    Code:
    $ mozilla-thunderbird
    You will probably receive some useful error messages that way.

    Javier.

      Hi. I've just tried that in a terminal but nothing happens. Should I be adding 'start' or something to the code?
      Appreciate your help.

        Nothing at all?

        You mean no error message?

        That usually means that thunderbird is already running. Hit CTRL+ESC, this should give you a list of the current running processes, type thunderbird in the search box. Now, if you can see thunderbird in the list, click on it, and kill it.

        Type the command again.

        Javier.

          No, it's not already running (doesn't show up in the running processes list). I can start it in safe mode though, so it's there somewhere. Bizarre.

            What do you mean with safe mode?
            Booting in safe mode (to a root console) or just loggin into safe mode?

            Have you tried to rename you .mozilla-thunderbid dir?

            Javier.

              I think he means Thunderbird's safe mode.

              Anyway, that would imply that something disabled in safe mode is preventing it from displaying.

              On no console output, I think that's normal. Firefox doesn't print much (if anything).

                At least it should output the Watcom garbage .

                If it starts in thunderbird safe mode, then it's likely an extension problem. Start is safe mode, disable all extension, start in normal mode and enable one extension at time until you find the culprit.

                  I don't have any extensions installed.

                    Have you tried to rename your profile dir (./mozilla-thunderbird)?

                    Do you have extra lenguages or something similar installed?

                    Javier.

                      What about running it in console with full path?
                      And if nothing happens try again running it with strace
                      $ strace /path/to/the/prog
