    Clamav

When I installed ClamAv and tried to update the virus definition, a error message said something to the effec that I had to be in root.
    How do I do that?

I think I'm right in saying prefix the command with 'su' (minus the ').

You may get prompted for your root password maybe not. My system is not consistent in this regard.

    Cheers.

      sudo, not su .

You should prefix the command with sudo. You will be asked for your password the first time that you use it. After that you should be able to use sudo without password for 15 minutes.

BTW, clamav is a very nice command line tool. But there is a graphical front-end, if you prefer GUI operations, called KlamAV.

Check your install, you shouldn't be getting that. If you didn't install using adept, you should. I agree with the other poster that it is worthwhile to install the gui.
