    Kernel Update?

There is an kernel update today.....
Since I compiled the audio driver for my CA0106 chip it is most probably that I will have to recompile it, Am I correct?

I have to rebuild the modules for my ATI X1600 after every kernel update; it may well be your case, too

        Re: Kernel Update?

Sound stopped working for me after the update. Annoyingly, even booting into prior versions of the kernel didn't bring sound back. I tried reinstalling alsa and xine packages, but to no effect.

        Any ideas?

          Re: Kernel Update?

If booting into prior versions don't work, then the problem is not in the kernel update.

          What other things get updated?

          HINT: Look at /var/log/dpkg.log

            aha.

            2007-05-25 19:54:54 status installed libpulse0 0.9.5-5ubuntu4.1

has this replaced my alsa? I'm trying to reinstall it now, and if this fails i'm going to remove it...

Everything worked fine here, untill reboot.
I get an API mismatch saying that my Nvidia-kernelversion doesn't match my
              X-module version.
Problem is, I installed a new Nvidia-driver and updated to the new kernel in one session. Guess i'll have to get busy.

Check the change log. If there is no mention of inclusion of your driver into the kernel, then yes, you will have to recompile support into your kernel.

                  Well, my first try worked.
Overwritten /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the old version.
                  (sudo cp xorg.conf.backup xorg.conf)
This got x working again under the generic drivers.
Then recompiled the Nvidia-driver and it's back to normal.

Hope this 'll help anybody with the same problem.

Ive been looking around for the big advantages of the new kernel, but i didn't really find something. I do notice my PATA disks are recognized as HDA again and not SDA.
No problems with the kernel update for me.

What is the new kernel? Apparently it's not for me -- nothing showing up new in Adept. My kernel is:

                      Linux feisty 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

DON'T!!! Just updated here and now can't boot. Old Kernel boots fine, new doesn't. At least for me.

It would appear that there is quite a problem with some users with the new kernel over at the Ubuntu forums.

Having been caught with kernel and x upgrades before, I always wait a couple of days before doing these updates to see if anyone has problems. Paid off for me, this time.
