    Amarok 1.4.5, libxine-extracodecs installed, no mp3 playback

Does anyone have a clue why this should be? I installed the library with Adept, but Amarok still complains about no mp3 support, and locks up when it brings up the "install support" dialogue. I have no idea why it's not working. I've installed, even *gasp* rebooted, but it still doesn't work. libxine-ffmpeg is installed, as well. Anyone else having this problem? Got a workaround?

    Thanks,
    actual

Try the repositories at Medibuntu. They should install anything you need to get Amarok working.

    Hope this helps you.

if i remeber correctly you also need to install libmad0 and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly packages.

I installed the gstreamer plugin, and libmad0 comes with libxine-extracodecs, or a similar package. After adding in the suggested repository, Adept suggested a lot of upgrades and a couple of installs, which I applied and rebooted. Still nothing

            from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

            Ubuntu 7.04

Click Applications → Add/Remove. In the top right, change the setting to All available applications. Then select Other in the left panel and then select the Ubuntu restricted extras package. Click OK.

I removed Amarok and reinstalled it using the restricted package from under "Others", but nothing much happened. It tries to populate the playlist, but hangs, and brings up the dialogue about not having mp3 support Then I have to kill it from KWin.

I'm still hopelessly at sea about this...I started Amarok from the command line and got these messages:

                Code:
                roland@#localhost:~/Music/Music$ amarok Mili\ Sefic\ -\ 365Mag\ Mix\ -\ May\ 2006.mp3

QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "unnamed", which already has a layout
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x8097ca8 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "play_pause"
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
and of course, the "Amarok doesn't support mp3 playback do you want to install?" dialogue, which hangs Amarok until Kguard suggests its death. Anyone? Bueller?

                  hi!

I had the same problem as you, after two hours trying to resolve it, i got the solution. When i run xine it gives me the verbose output for the error, it appears to be in the .xine directory of your user, simple remove this directorie from your home directory and it runs again

                  Hope it helps

As krasny2k5 said. Sometimes /home/user/.xine folder gets garbled.
