Re: Sony DCR-DVD405 (USB) doesn't get mounted anymore...

Just so you know, UDF is the most common format for DVD file systems, and ISO 9660 is the most common for CDs. (You can use ISO 9660 on DVDs, but there's very little reason to.)

Anyway, it looks like it wants to treat it just as an external DVD drive. Try mounting it with "sudo mount -t udf /dev/scd0 /media/sony" and seeing what it says (both mount and dmesg). Of course, it may need the usb_storage module, but I doubt it.
    For external use only.

No luck. Here are the outputs to the mount and dmesg:

      Code:
      neoakiraz@fcksys:~$ sudo mount -t udf /dev/scd0 /media/sony
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
          missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
          dmesg | tail or so

Re: Sony DCR-DVD405 (USB) doesn't get mounted anymore...

Then I'd guess that it's a problem with the disc.
If you have any new ones, try burning something to it with a known working DVD burner.

Hmm... actually, did you say that it was a mini DVD? As in a disc the diameter of the smaller depression in a CD tray?
That might be the problem. It might be that it's looking for a standard-size DVD and not finding one. I'd suggest filing a bug report if this is the case.

Re: Sony DCR-DVD405 (USB) doesn't get mounted anymore...

I've just tried plugging the camera in a fresh Feisty installation only to realize that it doesn't work either... I tried different MiniDVDs, formated them as both VIDEO and VR, which are the formats that the camera can handle. Randomly, some of them would report 'Unable to identify CD-ROM format' and some of them would just ignore the plugging. All manual mounts (udf) failed reporting "UDF-fs: No partition found (1)".

The media is ok, I can write it and read it from within the camera and Windows XP.
The thing is that this DID work some time before while my system was Edgy, and it stopped working in some middle way update. So it may be a bug they introduced recently, right?

I would like to fill a bug report, but never have done it yet. How should I proceed?

Thanks for all your help, it's a shame we couldn't find a solution... anyway, I learned a lot in the process I had just found a small command line program which would extract the VR tracks to .vob wonderfully in linux... but for now it's useless

Re: Sony DCR-DVD405 (USB) doesn't get mounted anymore...

One more thing. I booted to the Edgy Live DVD I had, and guess what... it works!
When I plug the camera, one more line shows in dmesg, and I can successfully see the content of the DVD... so maybe something did got screwed in some update.

One last question: is there any way to roll some package back to the state where this worked, or I'll have to wait until the bug I'll post gets checked and hopefully fixed?

Re: Sony DCR-DVD405 (USB) doesn't get mounted anymore...

It's probably the new libATA, then. It's caused no end of drive problems.

As for how to fix it, I'd again suggest filing a bug report. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found where to do it.

EDIT: I guess you could start here.
