MIME type not found - application/octet-stream

After changing the default application for text files, every time I try to open almost all type of files (including .desktop files), I get a dialog saying: "MIME type not found - application/octet-stream"... and the file opens ok with it's default application. Man, it gets pretty annoying to be closing little dialog boxes all the time!!
If I use the Find utility, I get so many dialogs that the application crashes.

Does anybody have any idea of how to fix this annoyance?... help appreciated!

look, i don't really have an answer.

i guess you've already checked, in files associations,
that "octet-stream" is still there in the known types,
    under "application".

i'm only really wild guessing here...based on the error message you get...

just in case, my entry reads:
    category: application
    type: octet-stream
    general action: none
embedding: ask whether to save to disk instead

    really hth
    cheers

Re: MIME type not found - application/octet-stream

One possible solution will be to delete the /home/user/.kde/share/mimelnk folder. Then log out and log in. A new one will be created with the defaults.

You will loose any manual change that you have made, but you will probably get rid of the dialogues.

        Thanks jankushka and javierrivera:

Somehow the octet-stream entry got deleted in file associations...I added it and everything went beautifully. No more error messages.
About javierrivera's idea,: I was was giving it a thought because I saw the octet-stream.desktop icon inside the ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/application directory... maybe that could have worked too... I'll keep that in mind.

        gracias... nejode
