    avahi-daemon and shutdown problems

    Hi,

For some reason the avahi-daemon (for mdns) starts up at boot even though I have turned it off in runlevel 2? I have checked 'services' in system settings and it is off so it should not start at boot?

Also, when I shutdown from kubuntu, it does not go back to the splash screen progress bar and close, it goes back to the old style terminal and shows the shutdown?

    Any ideas?

    Kill the beast

    Code:
    sudo mv /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon.exitus

      Hi,

Cheers, yes I have stopped it with /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon stop, but I would be better if it just didn't start at boot.

That's not what I suggested; renaming the script would factually deactivate it (simply because any attempt to call it would remain "unanswered" ...).

          Hi,

I see what you mean now, I'm just wondering what calls it-probably dhclient...I will work it out and post here

On a (rather large ...) console, you may issue sudo grep -ri 'avahi' /etc in order to receive at least parts of an answer
