cannot adjust master volume (can I reinstall my sound driver??)

hey, i cant adjust my master control volume through alsamixer and when i open kmix It doesnt even show a master control volume bar. Is there a place i can go to reinstall my sound driver because my sound is sooooo low compared to my windows partition,
    Thanks.

here some more info, It looks like i need to change my capabilities on my master volume. Take a look at what i get from the terminal when i type amixer:

    navets@navets-laptop:~$ amixer
    Simple mixer control 'Master',0
    Capabilities: pswitch
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback [on]
    Front Right: Playback [on]
    Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
    Capabilities: pvolume
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 255
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB]
    Front Right: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB]

Does anyone know how i can change master capabilities to pvolume? I think thats what i gota do

You probably just need to turn up something else or turn on something else.
      For external use only.
