System hangs on new Fiesty install

    hi all,
fiesty hangs all the time on my dell 8200 laptop. drapper drake used to work fine. i re-installed fiesty still te same proble. it boots fine and i login. afterwards if open up any application the whole KDE or system hanges. only option left at that time is to reboot system using the power down butoon. This is really annoying, the system some times does not work even for 5 munutes.

any ideas whay this is happening.

I'd try to boot with a Dapper Live CD and check if the system works well. If it doesn't, it's probably a hardware issue, if it does work right, then it's probably some software issue.

    You can also run memtest.

    Javier.

you might want to try the alternative disc as well if its not a hardware issue.

oh forgot to mention.i have Nvidia GEforce2 card and does not support composite oprtio. i putr the following

I just appended the section below to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

          Section "Extensions"
          Option "Composite" "Disable"
          EndSection

          and restarted X-server

this seems to be the trick also. since i have not seen any X/KDE freezes
