    Boot - Startup

Can I have a verbose startup at boot?

    Yes.

    Temporary solution:
At boot, press e over the Ubuntu you want to boot, then press e over the line that contain the word quiet, delete the word quiet, and press d over the line that only contains the word quiet. Press b to boot.

    Permanent:
    sudo kate /boot/grub/menu.lst
Do the same thing you did for the temporary solution.

Note: You can get rid of the splash screen in a similar way by getting rid of the word usplash. You may see even more text (but no splash screen)

        Unfortunately, no.

Yeah, I think that Ubuntu/Kubuntu should do something about that. I believe Fedora Core lets you use the mouse while booting and you can click the Show Details text which will let you receive verbose text right on the splash screen (you can click the Hide Details text that appears to hide the text).
