    I broke adept

In an attempt to get the packages ungreyed out and installed, I hit "fetch updates" in adept. Enabling the repositories didn't do the job. I got an error on the update, don't remember what. Now when I open adept I get this:

The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-setup and apt-get update in terminal and see if it helps to resolve the problem.
If I go in konsole and try either of those commands, I get this:

    ronnie@Mom-computer:~$ kdesu apt-get update
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 167
    Major opcode: 144
    Minor opcode: 3
    Resource id: 0x0
    Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 167
    Major opcode: 144
    Minor opcode: 3
    Resource id: 0x0
    Failed to open device
    Any ideas?

PS: Linux needs to never, ever give you a permission error. Instead, it should ask you for your password. This makes it much more of a pain in the ass than it needs to be.

ignore these "errors". they don't mean anything unless you have a synaptics touch pad.

Forgot that you need sudo not kdesu, that's spot on.

          Commands: sudo.
          Apps: kdesu.

Don't mix them. Could have bad ramifications.

You can use sudo for everything (it asks for password in terminal) whereas kdesu asks for password in a new KDE window (but therefore it only works with apps that can be opened via the run application in KDE (GUI applications).

You can, but you shouldn't. Personal experience. Believe me, it's not good.
