    vanishing windows decorations

    I've downloaded and installed beryl.
I have the cube (7 sides by intention) and when I restart the PC I restart beryl by using the konsole command 'beryl', whereupon the ?-X disappear from any windows I open.
has anyone got an idea what I've done and how I can have my beryl cube cake and eat my windows borders (to mix my metaphors)

    Good metaphor!

Are you selecting (in the Beryl Manager) the Emerald Window Decorator, and then "reloading" the window decorator?

Do you have glx extensions and compositing enabled in your xorg.conf?

Work on those awhile, and let us know if it gets better or worse.

      Re: vanishing windows decorations

I'm afraid I'm a newbie (25 years with windows - does that make me a woobie?) and the results of your reply threw up more questions than answers! Indeed I don't know how to answer your questions.
Specifically there are 2No. xorg.conf files:-
      /media/sda2/etc/x11/xorg.conf
      /etc/x11/xorg.conf
In fact as a wrote this I thought they were probably the same file (can files be symbolically linked in such a way that the same file appears more than once?). Whatever they are different because the contents are not the same.
In beryl settings manager where do I go to see whether 'Emerald Window Decorator' is selected?
I did however go to a console and issued the command 'sudo beryl-manager' and my windows decorations appeared.
Indeed my heart leapt with joy until I tried to close;resize;minimise or move from one page to another (lets say 'General Options' to 'Visual Effects'). Functionality was restored when I minimised the window and then maximised it and now as I type this reply if I maximise the window the window slide pane at the side ceases to move until I resize it whereupon functionality is restored
