Hadn't fiddled much with my sandbox machine in which I'd been running Edgy for the last six months...early this week I got an upgrade notice in the toolbar indicating that Feisty was ready for upgrade. I followed the instructions in Adept and, of course, the whole thing choked after a few hours of downloading.
So I was left with a kinda-installed Feisty version of Kubuntu. This prompted me to go to these venerable forums and follow the sage advice of the initiates into the mysteries of Ubuntu/Kubuntu. After hours of fixing and refixing and downloading and restarts, I was left with a command prompt-only version of Feisty, which didn't have much value to me. All future attempts to improve the situation resulted in no improvement.
Sooo, I did a clean re-install, and now I'm in the process of rebuilding my networking, printing, graphics drivers, etc from scratch. What fun ...
That being said, the system now crashes at least once per session, with Adept leading the way. It seems virtually impossible to install an app using the package manager without it telling me that it stopped because it was likely to break something. Yah, yah, I can use the command line, but I kinda got away from that in the '80s and was looking for something that actually had a workable user interface for common tasks.
Enough kvetching...I really like the work that's been done on the OS and suites of apps and am a big proselytizer, but wholly cow, Batman, ya can't be tempting the unwashed masses into upgrading an OS when it's in this condition.
Hoping for lotsa fixes in the near future....
