Slow KDE Launch programs on NFS

    Hi,

I recently upgraded from Dapper to Feisty. After the upgrade programs in KDE including oowriter, firefox, Konsole, etc take 1-2 minutes to start. Once they start they work fine. Some of the programs launch faster the second time and others don't. The home directory is NFS mounted on a freebsd server. Command line tools seem fine on the NFS partition

This is similar to the issue described at http://www.kde-forum.org/artikel/164...on-launch.html

I have portmap running and nfs-common installed. This is a new issue under Feisty. Under Dapper things were working fine.

Taking a(nother) look at this manual might prove helpful (?).

Looks like that was the problem. Once I moved the home directories to a linux server things worked fine. I guess there's some kind of compatibility problem between NFS on freebsd and on Linux. The weird part is that it worked on Dapper and that it only showed up on app startup. Probably something to do with KDE locking.
