cannot change desktop icons + rename

    Hi guys

Why might kubuntu desktop manager not commit changes to icon images and names on user desktops??

I've logged into my user [kubuntu install] account and tried to rename desktop icons and use Properties option to change icon images. No effect. Goes through the menus and icon images but nothing on the desktop changes. Tried a reboot. No effect.

Which ever user I log into, and which ever icon I attempt to change, no effect.

    Any ideas

    Thanks in advance.

my guess this is a bug

I have reported it as a bug but no resolution

on my system, gnome works appropriately, but in the KDE interface (which I prefer) it appears ot be broke.

my issue is with samba share icons, i get an access denied message when I try to change the label of the icon.

additional problems in feisty (not in edgy)
ppmtomd for (in my case) the MD-1000 Alps printer doesn't work and appears to be a problem with others as well

nvidia resolution for the 6 series card (6200 on my system)

non of these are show stoppers but they are hiccups

    regards

      Thanks for the reply.

Yep, I'm okay with Gnome too, seems to work there.

But for me, desktop aesthetics are a must and Gnome, despite all my googling, downloading, patching, hacking and tweking...just cannot cut the cake so far as KDE mastery of the desktop goes.
