Lock session - start new session

On my new Feisty (upgrade from Dapper), choosing lock session in the main KDE menu makes the screen go black, and I can't do anything else. No new login screen, no unlock dialog. Same behavior when choosing switch session (starting a new user session). I can ssh in, but I'm not sure what I would need to kill to get out of this state.

    Anyone seing similar behavior?

I can't say that this is your problem, but on a few of my older machines, I had to do what I have posted here to get "propper" behavior from the Boot Splash and the Shutdown Splashes. See if it also helps in this case:

No, pretty sure it's not an issue with anything other than changing the session. It should just bring the login screen up again (kdm) but that doesn't appear to be happening, and I think that since a new session is never really started I can't do the alt-Fn key to get back to the original session. In Dapper the change user session functionality worked fine.
I'm can only guess that the upgrade may have hosed something.
