    Encoders

You know, I was just thinking about the time when I use to encode dvd movies into 3gp or mp4 format or probably dvix. Do we have a way of doing that under Linux. How about a company that sell those codecs.

uh no. you can use proprietary codecs if you want but that isn't in the spirit of free open source software. read up about it.

use xvid or theora instead of 3gp, mp4, or divx. and use ogg, flac, or speex for audio. thats my recommendation.

yes. but it is designed to be simplified for ease of use and not very advanced per se. (i read that in a recent interview with the developer of k3b about version 1.0).

I was thinking, do we have a how to on how to use dvdrip. I have been trying to encode some files by using dvdrip software and I have not been successful. Can you please point me to the right direction?
                    Thanks.

                      Re: Encoders

"man dvdrip" or "dvdrip --help" are the first two things to try when you're looking for help.

you might also want to give acidrip a try. (its a gtk app).

                          Re: Encoders

Another option would be to google dvd:rip. Then you would find the website:

                          http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/

complete with documentation, help, etc. I have used dvd:rip and acidrip. I did not find the documentation for dvd:rip that helpful. I suppose that autogtk on windows spoiled me. There just is nothing that easy on linux. However, if you play with the settings on dvd:rip, you can get a setup that will work for you.
