Decompressing split .rar archives (.r00, r.01...) [SOLVED]

I've downloaded some movies that are compressed as split .rar archives with the file extensions .r00, .r01, .r02 etc. I've tried decompressing the files writing "unrar e .rar" in the Konsole. I get the an error message saying it's not a RAR archive. unrar-free says it's an unknown archive type and using Ark and Xarchiver also results in error messages. I've tried this on several movies and I doubt they're all corrupt.

I've seen similar problem posted on different forums, but none of the answers I found were helpful. Can anyone here help me?

Did you try to "unsplit" (read: merge) them, e.g. by cat [movie].* > [movie].rar, prior to any uncompression?

Thanks! Merging the files work! Now I have another problem, though. I did a clean Kubuntu reinstall after having several other problems. Now, I can't install unrar beacuse it's not listed in Adepts list of packages and typing "sudo apt-get install unrar" in the konsole results in this error message:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package unrar is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package unrar has no installation candidate

I managed to install unrar manually, so now it works. Apparently you are NOT supposed to merge the files. I just opened one of the parts with Ark and extracted it. I don't know why it didn't work earlier but now it does.
