I have used Virtual box on other distros and want to install it on Kubuntu. But, I can't find it in the repos. Is there a way to get it, 'cause I've never had to install it manually?
Info: I installed Virtualbox 1.40 some days ago from the installation file of Innotec and found it working quite well, enabling me to work with Macromedia Fireworks 3. I was not able to write to Floppy, however, with the Win98 I installed within it, and it did not recognize my usb stick. Networking for connecting to the Host system (Feisty fawn) was far too complicated for me, and the Add-ons for shared drives (or shared directories?) is available starting with Win2000, but not for Win98 as a guest. No cut and paste either, so I de-installed it again.
But I decided to give it another try, next time with Win2000 as a guest system. This is said to work with the addition for shared storage so I would be able to retrieve the files I had created.
The problem with the scanner not recognized certainly will be saved sooner or later. I had not asked Innotec forums for support, I just tried once.
On my 1300 MHz Celeron with 512 MB RAM, Virtualbox was s-l-o-w so I even had problems because mouse pointer needed a few seconds to move to the target, so I did not know were it was when I clicked too soon.
Today I installed Windows 2000 within VirtualBox. No Problems, and almost everything is working perfektly: My Canon D2400U Scanner which never will be recognized by SANE, USB-Sticks (read the virtualbox.org website, it is in English), Internet, Common Directories readable by Kubuntu and Windows :-). Until yesterday I depended heavily on Wine/Crossover solutions but now they seem like Stone Age...
