Seriously, though, there is no "definitive solution". Multiple problems exhibit very similar symptoms.

I tried the "TerminateServer=True" fix and it seems to have worked so far (knock on wood).

One question is why hasn't this specific issue been fixed by the kubuntu/ubuntu developers? Seems to be rather prevalent.

Slightly-off-topic question: I was hoping that Kubuntu (which I'm new to) would be relatively hassle-free, should I move on or stick with it? Is it going to be an uphill battle?

It is in the process of being worked on. If that'll actually fix it sometime in the semi-near future, we can't tell.

And no, it's won't be uphill forever. Only when you try to install or upgrade something.
