new to kde, menu and app start problems

Hi everyone, I've been using ubuntu for quite some time now, and I've just discovered the Kubuntu desktop!!

I just installed it as a new session option. I now have Gnome and KDE interfaces. is there any way that i can make just the menu resemble the gnome menu? and also, I've been having some problems getting the applications to start. I click on them and they "pretend" to load (meaning that everything loads, but the app doesn't actually start), so i click on it again, and it starts immediately. are there any fixes for this??

I think this is a known KDE problem. Any apps I use often I make an icon for so I can always click it again.

I've seen people make KDE look and act like gnome, but I don't know how to do it. Go to http://www.kde-look.org/

try running the command in Konsole. If it doesn't work then there's a problem with your application. I never had this problem in any other Linux distribution with KDE.
