    adept manager problem

You will not be able to change your system settings in any way (install, remove or upgrade software), because another process is using the packaging system database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). Please close the other application before using this one.

any Idea why I'm getting this error? I'm the newest to linux here...

    TIA...

Yep, you had another instance of Adept running, or else a download/installation was not able to complete for some reason.

    In a Konsole window, type
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    and then
    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoclean
and then you should be able to start Adept anew (hey, is that a little poem?)

        Re: adept manager problem

Add medibuntu to your sources list, by following the instructions here (for Feisty, obviously):

        http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repository.php

After doing that, and depending on your kernel version (AMD64, or generic, or PowerPC, or whatever), you'll want the packages for Amarok-xine and libdvdcss2 and libavcodec, or so I'm told -- I'm not a DVD player type.

Good luck with it -- let us know how you fare!

April 19 is the date, but if you've been updating your Feisty, you're pretty much there already.

thanks, would you have any helpful post or sites that would make for good reading and help me better understand linux and the ways of 7.04?

                Re: adept manager problem

I bought Keir Thomas book "Beginning Ubuntu LInux" from Amazon.com, and I also studied partitioning and dual-boot stuff at this site:

                http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/index.php

I took an older hard drive that I had laying around, cabled it into my old desktop Windows machine, disconnected the operational hard drive, and began practicing installing and configuring from a live CD that I had made (happened to be Kubuntu Dapper). That machine had an ATI graphics card, so I went through the misery of getting it to work, and by the time I was done breaking things about 10 times, I kinda had the hang of it.

Then I declared myself a qualified noobie and commenced giving advice to others.

                    Thanks.

But there's a whole universe of Linux stuff that I don't know -- especially in the networking domain. This forum will be most useful if everyone who has some experience will share what they know, or have made work -- it's the collective knowledge of all users that makes the Linux alternative viable, and offers an alternative to the proprietary approach to computing.
