    Setting up Beryl

    Hi,

I have just installed Beryl on my PC, but whenever I select to use Beryl as the Windows Manager the screen flashes and it goes back to KWin, not sure if this is an install issue or just that my PC cant run Beryl (would have thought it should run, as I have run Compiz on Manadriva on same machine)

I am running a Duo Core 1.66 with 2 gb of Ram and an ATI X1400 256mb Graphics card.

    Does anyone have any ideas.

Update: The info on the Ubuntu Wiki for installing Beryl, is to use the Open Source ATI Driver, only problem is that my Card is not listed as supported

    Thanks,

    Re: Setting up Beryl

That machine and card can run Beryl, so it must be that either the graphics driver isn' t quite installed correctly or configured, or else something about Beryl isn't right. Did you set up glx and composite in your graphics driver? (I don't know squat about ATI drivers, so I don't know how). You have to have those capabilities to get Beryl running right.

      Hi,

As far as I know I have the ATI Drivers installed properly, I couldn't find much on Feisty Fawn, so I used a how to from Edgy and it seems to have worked (I Hope)

Anyway when I run glfrxinfo, it looks like it is installed correctly.

      Code:
      display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
      OpenGL version string: 2.0.6334 (8.34.8)
Update: I have noticed that the screen refresh does not seem to be that good, so it could be that the driver has not installed properly, but not sure what I can do to check this.

        Re: Setting up Beryl

        Hi,

As I have to disable Composite as part of the setup for ATI drivers, I am looking at using XGL with Beryl or Compiz, I have installed the xserver-sgl package, but I am not sure how to get this to run and also how to then get Beryl or Compiz (prefably Compiz), to run as well.

        Can anyone help.

        Thanks,

        Gavin,

(Mental Note next time I buy a PC make sure it has NVidia )
