Trouble adding printer, options are greyed out

When I click add printer/class to add my printer, every option except "SMB shared printer (windows)", "other printer type" and "class of printers" is unavailable. Because of this, I can't add my printer. How can I fix this?

Try uninstaling and then reinstalling cups. That worked for me.

      HOpe that helps

I tried reinstalling and removing and installing again using the apt package manager. That didn't work.

It's a printer on the network. I connect to it using TCP/IP port 9100.

O.k., o.k. did you try to install the printer by means of CUPS' own interface (thus bypassing KDE's "add-on"), i.e. http://localhost:631/admin ...?

Good idea. It didn't work with CUPS' interface either. I was able to fix the problem by using adept to purge the cups packages. Purge removes the configuration settings, which simply removing or reinstalling does not do, as I recently learned. Thanks for the help guys.

Note to anyone else reading this: before removing packages, ALWAYS preview the changes first. I've had situations where I removed a package and adept ended up removing almost every single package in the system.

                    Hello Moley

I recently had a similar printer problem, and I also did the "uninstall-reinstall" routine. I did it the first time just removing the CUPS related files. That only helped me a little bit. I finally got Feisty to recognize my printer (epson cx5800) by removing ALL the CUPS files and reinstalling that plus I made sure I also had theFOOMATIC related stuff. I'm not a guru, but I think the FOOMATIC stuff is what got my Feisty laptop to behave and start printing.

Give that a shot, I wish you luck.
