Re: Icons
Unfortunately, icon creators don't always make easy to install icon themes. Sometimes, the icon installer will install it directly from the archive file, just try pointing the installer to the tar.gz file. Sometimes you have to run a script located inside the extracted folder (usually there are directions for this) and sometimes a theme has to be compiles like a program is compiled. Many of the items in the Icon Themes section of kde-look.org have instructions on the description page on how to install. But if the theme archive contains a file called either index.desktop or index.theme, it can be installed via the icon installer applet
I assume that because icons can be cross-platform.cross-distro/cross-Desktop in scope, icon artists probably simply cannot cover everyone The DIY nature of Linux ia one of the good points of the OS, but also can be a downside for new users unfortunately

Re: Icons
Hi I have been using Linux, for about 4 months, and Kubuntu for about 3. First of all it is great, much more transparent and simple than SUSE.
I am finding that your comments are true about the icon providers, they say you have to run a file in the tar ball and indeed I have found the file but I don't know the command to action it I have tried 'run' 'sh' and just typing it with out a pre command. All to no avail.
Can you help

Re: Icons
Aha!
there is a hidden folder in /home/username/.kde/share/icons for those that are a green to linux as me the fullstop makes this folder and any contents hidden.
When I found this out I tried to go to the Icon folder withing the hidden ".kde" folder but I didnt have a icons folder, so i created it.
Then I unpacked the downloaded Icon sets to this folder.
Then I could choose the icon set from the systems setting menu, under apperance/icons.
Great (only after all this I didn't like the icon set... lol but now I can carry on looking)
