    Beryl autostart in Feisty

    I have beryl running in Kubuntu Feisty with current updates/upgrades my question is how do I get it to start on boot? It will start 1 in 5 times at present but I would like it to start automatically?

    I don't start mine at boot, but through a new xsession entry. I choose that new xsession when I log in, thus allowing me to have one for normal KDE/kwin and one for KDE/Beryl.

    Is that what you're looking for? If so, I can find the link I used, or send the steps I did. They're easy and quick.

      See:

      Users of KDE

      On startup, KDE executes all files in ~/.kde/Autostart. Therefore, a symbolic link may be used to load Beryl upon each execution of KDE. To create it, run:

      ln -s /usr/bin/beryl-manager ~/.kde/Autostart/beryl-manager

        Re: Beryl autostart in Feisty

        The problem i had is that it isn't always applying the beryl as the decoration, beryl-manager was starting but not using beryl as the windowmanager, it was letting kwin be the windowmanager, i solved it by running beryl-xgl on starting

        HOWEVER feisty does not have beryl-xgl, so you'll have to get it from the beryl repo and force version to the slightly older version in the beryl repo and use xgl as the xserver, this was good for me because i like xgl, it felt faster than the plan xorg with the latest nvidia drivers

          After beryl-manager has started, open Beryl Manager either by clicking the red gem in the tray or choosing it in the System Menu. Choose Select Window Manager -> Beryl. You should then see the windows changing/flashing as it loads the new Beryl window manager.

          Before logging out, check the .beryl-managerrc file in your home dir. It should look something like the following:

          Code:
          [wm-settings]
          active_wm=0
          fallback_wm=0
          active_dm=0
          iconsize=24
          use_fallback_wm=false

          [beryl-settings]
          render_path=0
          cow_mode=0
          rendering_mode=0
          platform=0
          binding=0
          active_wm=0 lets you know that Beryl is the window manager.

          Seems to be fixed now, but in the past, I had to keep changing these settings by hand as they were getting lost somehow.

              I use the Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty (http://www.kubuntu.org/download.php#latest), but it seems that there is no beryl-manager located under /usr/bin/beryl-manager.

              I find one inside the /usr/share/app-install/desktop/beryl-manager.desktop instead.

              However, I can not launch buy executing it. After reading its content, I found out it tries to reference to beryl-manager, which I can not find in the livd-cd file system. What steps I need to perform in order to use beryl?

              many thanks
