This mornings' upgrade disabled my printers [SOLVED!]

When I did this mornings' upgrades (CUPSYS, etc.) my printers were disabled. When I tried to reinstall them, the KDE printing tool wouldn't show the buttons for serial/parallel devices (the buttons were faded out) as well as all of the other buttons excepting the Windows printer and the one at the bottom with nothing on the next menu. I rebooted my system but to no avail. This mornings' updates are apparently broken. Or, at least, they broke my printer installations!!! Any clue for someone who is clueless and needing to print in feisty? Thanks...
    [SOLUTION]
Okay. I jumped to hardware department above and read that I should try "sudo dpkg- reconfigure cupsys" and then I had to re-chose "parallel" there. Now, it works and I re-installed my printers successfully. Hope this isn't what everyone else has to do with this morning's updates.

I have the same problem, that the latest Kubuntu updates killed any printer options except SMB and " Other printer type". tried removing and re-adding , no success... anybody know which files control the resources to fix that?

I had the exact same problem and was able to fix it. Open up the adapt package manager and search for CUPS. Right click cupsys and select "Purge". This removes the package and its settings (instead of just package files). Do this for cupsys-common, cupsys-client, etc. and note what packages you are purging so that you know what to select for install later. Click the preview changes and make sure everything is right. (Sometimes when you remove a certain package, adept selects everything for removal, so it is important to preview the changes before hand.) Apply the changes, then install the cups related packages you removed.
