with updates this morning the bootsplash is back. Looks more like the ubuntu 6.10 splash. Bigger and more detailed. I like it. Also I think there's a new wallpaper. I saw a line while the update were being applied: wallpaper manually configured, not changing wallpaper. Something like that.
