    Bootsplash missing?

I downloaded and installed a bunch of updates today. Afterwards my bootsplash seems to be gone. Rather than the nice "Kubuntu" and loading bar, I just get scrolling text, and the the login screen.

    Anyone else having this problem?

I'm going to say "YES", but disagree that it is a "problem". I think maybe the developers just need to see what is going on while it boots. Remember, Feisty is alpha software, for testing only -- not to be confused with finished, released work.

Bish, I like your taste in avatars!

Mmm.. Could be. I asumed something broke the bootsplash, but I suppose it could just be testers intentionally removing it for a time.

Yeah, I like this avatar too. It's done by Koge Donbo, a Japanese Manga-Ka. She has a very distinctive style.

Yep I'm getting the same boot text as well. I hate to admit it but I like it. I didn't realize how much I missed seeing what is loading and what isn't.

For instance my DVD(+-)RW drive isn't loading normal. I keep getting some odd messages that I haven't seen before saying that hdb won't accept commands or some such. I'm trying to search Launchpad (what a nightmare) to see if it's a reported bug. Honestly I'm such a newb that I don't even know if it's an error or not because I can eventually boot okay.

Anyways all that to say that I never would have seen that if it was just a pretty boot splash.

Not sure if it's intentional, but probably nothing to worry about. They've probably started switching to a new usplash graphic (for feisty)...further updates will probably bring usplash back.

I hate to admit it but I like it.
You can disable the splash (and watch the messages) by removing 'splash' from the grub boot options...if you like the messages more than usplash
