i've thought about trying synaptic [...] i'm not sure if it conflicts with adept

On Kubuntu 06.10 as well as 07.04, I'm using Adept and Synaptic "side by side", read: fully installed in parallel, launched and used alternatively - just the same as with "plain APT" and one of those GUI tools ...

Me too. One bad java install with adept and I learned LOL

I have moved to, and will probably stay with apt-get now. IT seemed faster. Probably wasn't but it seemed like it.
