    How to tell which kernel

Please excuse my ignorance, how do I tell what kernel I am running with, I am using a low spec PC so I apt-get install linux-686 to make the best use of it, but I don't see it is i386 or i686 on the boot screen.
Do you Yahoo ? No I hiccup only :P

The console command is "uname -r".

You can also see it on the KControl top screen, by entering the command "kcontrol" in the console.

Re: How to tell which kernel

Background to the decision to replace -686, k7 and -smp kernels with -generic can be found here https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...st/019983.html (the -386 kernel is still available if needed)
        Hope that helps.

2.6.20-8 means you installed Feisty, a non-released, non-stable version. It may not be a great match to your "low-spec" computer -- depending on what those low specs actually are.
