Re: Automatix
Yes of course, it was quite long time ago, when I've dist-upgraded three machines from dapper to edgy, two fallen without kubuntu-desktop and it seems it was due to automatix, maybe (I guess it's sure) now it's solved and safe to use.
Anyway I still prefer to ask people where I'm installing computers to do it in the old way :
- using restrictedformats and other resources to get what they want
- or from feisty, trying to read the file, then get the codec or whatever installed automatically by the system. BTW really great feature.

Re: Automatix
I can't get video at www.cnn.com to work for me. It says there's no player installed. video.google.com works no problem though.

Re: Automatix
Google Video works on Flash so it's not so tricky.
CNN was a pain to figure out. For some reason I couldn't get it working with the Kaffeine plugin. I removed the Kaffeine plugin and installed VLC's mozilla plugin. Then I installed mozplugger. I already had libxine-extracodecs and w32codecs installed. I'm not sure if it was VLC or mozplugger, but the combo worked. It made it so CNN couldn't figure out what version of Media Player was installed (it wants version 9) and asked me if I wanted to play the video anyway. The video and sound worked just for me then.

Re: Automatix
The easy way to get the cnn video to work in firefox is to install the Greasemonkey extension, then go to http://userscripts.org and search for cnn and you will find some scripts to install that will make cnn videos work. Greasemonkey is a "must have" extension for FF. More and more scripts are being written every day to improve FF's ability to play and access media on the web.
