why force openoffice.org?

hey,

i recently remarked that kubuntu-desktop depends on openoffice - why?
i have koffice installed and i am happy with it.
isn't it possible to make sth like kubuntu-desktop-koffice and kubuntu-desktop-openoffice or totaly remove the office packages from the dependency list of kubuntu-desktop?

Well - I think that kubuntu-desktop has most of the bells and whistles. If you don't want those, then maybe these links help.

kubuntu-desktop is simply an empty pointer package that points to all the default packages in a Kubuntu installation.

If you remove one of those default packages, you're removing a pointer to all those default packages.

It doesn't mean your Kubuntu won't function any more, but keep in mind that having kubuntu-desktop package installed makes for a smoother transition during upgrades.
