You both are correct I needed ATI fglx which I installed with by installing restricted-manager and all works fine..
I visited the Envy page and had problems updating the GTK python requirements so I abandoned ENVY.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious..Sometimes i need that .....
Do you have the latest ATI proprietary driver installed and enabled? If not, check out the following link for Envy; it downloads and installs the correct driver for you:
