    RealPlayer on AMD64?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that RealPlayer formats do not support the AMD64 processor. I have downloaded and installed RealPlayer10.0 without errors, but I still can't play NASA vido feeds, which use RealPlayer, or our local public Radio Station. The window comes up, the station logo appears, but no sound comes out.

I've also tried playing it on Amarok with no success.

Is this an AMD64 problem, or is it just me? Is there a workaround?

It was my impression that RealPlayer only worked in 32bit, but I could be wrong. Please take a look at this page at the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki.

I too installed under 64bit and got no sound working. However, there's a work around. Please see this link. http://www.debianhelp.org/node/5337

In case you have problems finding the (k)ubuntu how to, it's linked deep down so here's it. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1174435

Re: RealPlayer on AMD64? -- Amarok

Thanks, guys! I should have mentioned that I am using 32 bit Firefox, but as it happens that's not the problem. Turns out the NASA feeds are in Windows Media format, which is another issue entirely. I'll be working on that later. I got the RealPlayer working on Firefox -- apparently the original problem was just network congestion for my local radio station. Its servers can't handle much traffic, it seems.

So, my REAL problem is RealPlayer streams on Amarok. Mine can play http:// streams, but not rstp:// streams, even though the documentation says it can.

Is there a work-around for this on Amarok, or am I just out of luck? Is this a 64 bit problem as well|?
(No real tragedy if I am, there sure are a lot of radio feeds on its playlist that do work!)

        Thanks again!

I used nspluginwrapper w/ ia32-lib to install and run the standard 32bit RealPlayer on a 64bit Kubuntu w/ a 64bit Firefox and it works great..

As far as getting the streams being correctly recognized and used that is bot a FIreFox and KDE config issue.
In FireFox......Edit > Preferences > Content TAB and File types MANAGE
..CHoose the file type you need to open with REALPLAYER and change it..

In KDE Control Panel > KDE Components > FIle Associations and check out the Applciations, Audio, and VIdeo sectons and look again for the FIle extension types and Add RealPlayer ...also Make it FIrst to Open..this will be obvious when you open the Menu.
