external modem not found... (Dialup)

I have a Zoom External modem model number 2948L. its plug into my serial port. The KPPP thing will not find it. I tried all the modem and tyss ports and quired the modem and says not found. This is the only thing stopping me from using linux. the modem works as i'm usingf it right now on the same computer but with windows xp.

How do I get this working?

i put ubuntu 6.06ltr and my modem works....

One of the 'problems' with Linux, is that what work(ed) in one release, isn't guaranteed to work in a later release. Guess you just found that out. :P
