    Networking with Windows Vista.. Help!

Very new to Kubuntu. Installed and so far I'm poking around and trying to get things.
I'm trying to get Kubuntu to connect to my Vista machine.
I've installed Samba and my conf is on the "connect" workgroup. (same as my windows)
I can browse my Vista machine and see all files.
It asks me for a password, I've tried to jsut pressing ok and entering the username and password of the windows box.

I find the file I want to copy to my home folder or desktop and I choose copy, and it tells me It can't read the file..

But now I was messing around and if I replace the computer name with the IP I can copy the file just fine.

When I click on my "Samba Shares" icon, How can I have it so it automatically pulls the IP instead of the computer name?

It doesn't really matter because the TCP/IP network already does this translation for you, the network doesn't use names, it uses the translation to get the ip from that name, so, unless there is a problem with name translation with your system, using the ip instead of the name results in the same thing.
I had a big trouble getting an iMac G5 to connect to a 2003 server machine, I messed whatever network configuration was possible in the Mac, but in the end it was the windows machine which had something different in the configuration.
