well, yeah, it'd be useful to know if the network you're trying to connect to is
open or encrypted and, if encrypted, if it's wep or wpa.

not that i have a solution, but at least we (and other people reading this thread)
have all the basic info to start to try and help you out of it...

        cheers

ok. sorry I am complete newbie when it comes to setting up wireless. My internet connection is encrypted WPA personal (enhanced). The cypher is set to AES and the PSK/EAP is set to PSK This acording to my router settings. When I move it over the name of my wireless connection I see
          IP :0.0.0.0
          Hardware adress 00:0C:F1:1A:E9:45
          Subnetmask: 0.0.0.0
          Broadcast: 0.0.0.0
          Network : <name>
          Hidden : yes
          Access point:
          Bandwith: Unknown
          Signal Strength: 0
          Frequency : unknown
          Encrypted: yes
          encryption protcol :WPA
          Device Active: No
          Network active: Yes

          Hope this helps

The problem is your WPA encryption... despite other posts to the contrary, I have NOT been able to get it to work with Knetworkmanager...

            Try Kwifimanager instead

Re: Trying to connect to the net

wireless configuration is one the most problematic things on kubuntu.
or so i gathered by reading this forum for some time now.

knetworkmanager sorted out many issues, but not all.
thus, trying kwifimanager as suggested by audionut is always an option.
especially if audionut has your same hardware and configuration.

              this said...
i use wpa-psk and knetworkmanager connected out of the box.
i have an intel pro wireless 3945.
i had an intel pro wireless 2200 (on the old laptop).
              no issues with neither cards.

we have wpa-enterprise with wpa2 at work.
              no issue there either.

i see a couple of things on your last post which i'd double check:

try switch the essid broadcast on.
i've found a few posts reporting issues with this.
there also seems to be an open bug about this.
but launchpad is offline right now, so i can't check.

no signal and no active device deserve double checking, too.
