NFS client write operation slows down system

    Hi All,

I have a D_Link DNS-323 NAS running in my network, which is enabled to act both as Samba and NFS server.
It is connected to a WLAN router, from where I access the NAS with my PC running Feisty via a 54 Mbit/s link.

I have a directory mounted as NNS share. When transferring a large file from the DNS to the PC, I get a transfer speed of around 2-2,5 MB/s, which looks reasonable to me. However, when I transfer a large file from the PC to the NAS, the Konqueror window indicating the transfer speed is giving me ridiculous values (in the range of 25-30 MB/s), while the PC is almost blocked during the file transfer. The indicator then stops every 200-300 MB, until it finally reaches 100%. Once the 100% is reached, the PC is not frozen any more, however the file transfer is still going on.Speed is also around 2 MB/s, measured with a stop watch).

The funny thing is: When I transfer a file of the same size to the same directory using SMB, this does not happen, and the Konqueror popup window is showing me values of around 1,5 MB/s. (The speed difference is why I use NFS...)

Has anybody an idea what could be the reason of this behaviour, and how to fix it ?
Working...
