I'm fairly new to linux. I was wondering how I can configure kubuntu so that I have something similar to windows remote desktop connection. basically I want to be able to use a windows xp computer on the internet to login and use my linux system as if I was sitting in front of it. thanks for any help. step by step instructions would be really useful

Re: remote desktop
I would recommend taking this in several steps as what you are asking is actually more than a trivial task. First, get the Kubuntu computer to accept incoming control from the XP computer on your home network. Here's a link about one way to do that:

Once you get that working, then set up your home network to accept incoming connections from a remote computer. That involves forwarding ports on your router to the Kubuntu computer.
If none of this sounds familiar, then you probably have some learning to do before you will make this work. It is very doable though. I have mine working like this.
