    Re: knetworkmanager wireless

I have never needed to use madwifi for my atheros card. There is quite a lot of information on WEP here and at the Ubuntu Forums as well as the wikis.

      Re: knetworkmanager wireless

I know and everything sounds straight forward. I just don't know where else look or what else to troubleshoot. It's clearly Kubuntu related. I am positive that it's not hardware related or a configuration issue on the router.
I'll post another topic. Maybe somebody has some suggestions on how to clean up all configs and start from a clean slate.

Thanks to everybody for your help.

I'm sorry I can't be more help. It seems that you have isolated it to an issue with WEP which I don't use, so I don't think I can offer any more assistance other than turn it off until you sort this out.

          Re: knetworkmanager wireless

this is a BIG problem with feisty! I have a compaq that i use a dlink dwl-630 card that worked great with dapper and edgy with no extra config. Worked right out of the box. But under feisty, no dice. the card is recognized and kwifi manager actuall shows a signal but cannot connect to the modem much less the internet. What is the Dev team doing?? This is obviously a huge problem. Cards that just worked pre-feisty may as well be thrown away. >

I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

I have a very similar problem - although no one cares to reply (thread at http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3084943.0) - with a different card (Netgear WG111v2)

I'll post my thoughts anyway !
I got my card to work when I was able to choose the type of WEP key : that was 40/104 bits hex.
But this option is not available in KNetworkManager (only ASCII or WEP)

I don't know exactly what program offered me that choice... But this program started KWallet right away in order to store the key.
When I first plugged in my card, there was an automatic setup process that asked me a few questions, and it worked.
At one point it just stopped working : maybe there are two networkmanaging programs not getting along well...
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling KNetworkManager, no use.

I'm not as familiar as V040V8f8 with the system commands, so I apologize for the approximations in my lousy diagnostic

            Hope this comment can help
