    Wireless connection fails

Hi, I have a dual boot (Kubuntu 7.04/WinXP) Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D 1845 laptop and a wireless network provided by a Netgear DSL-G624T Access Point. The wireless card uses the ISL3886 chipset.

I can connect the wireless network under Window$, so the connection works.

The installation of the Prism ISL3886 drivers (downloaded from the Fujitsi-Siemens site) through ndiswrapper was apparently successful.

Also, I am able to see my wireless network listed when I right-click on the knetworkmanager applet and it correctly sees that it is WPA-encrypted. However, when I try to connect the system shows a sort of progression bar, above the knetworkmanager icon, which stops for a while at 28% writing "Activation stage:configuring device" and then disappears, failing to connect.

I was only able to notice one strange thing: if I issue the statement /sbin/ifconfig, it shows correctly my ethernet card, the loopback device and the wireless card as

    wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:90:4B:8B:46:34
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:180 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:133 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:22420 (21.8 KiB) TX bytes:14630 (14.2 KiB)
    Interrupt:17 Memory:dfffe000-e0000000

but sometimes it also shows this:
    wlan0:ava Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:90:4B:8B:46:34
    inet addr:169.254.4.228 Bcast:169.254.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    Interrupt:17 Memory:dfffe000-e0000000

    Any suggestion?
