    no connection in Feisty <SOLVED>

    i am a real newbie in linux so to any distros. 2 days ago i downloaded Kubuntu 7.0.4 Feisty Fawn, and i installed the livecd first and tried no connection then i installed it full on the entire disk erasing winxp, still no connection. Then i installed windows again and partitioned the disk and i installed kubuntu again on the other partition, feisty works well but still no connection. God knows how many forums i read through but still whatever i did it did not work. Xp works fine so connection is alive and i have 4 more computers running in the network with winxp, i use Dlink DI-604 4 port router, dhcp is on so the settings in network Setting Configuration is set on dhpc, dns gets the dns automatically and the ip too as usual and broadcasting ip, the gateway i tried different variations including my isp's assigned gateway but still nothing. when i tracepath the dns it says
    1: send failed
    Resume: pmtu 65535

    when i do ifconfig

    eth0
    Link encap: Ethernet Hwaddr 00:01:02:B0:28:B5
    inet addr: 192.168 0.170 Bcast: 192.168.0.175 Mask 255.255.255.248 (mask is like that because i had to set it so in the router thats what the isp set)
    inet6 addr: fe80::201:2ff:feb:28b5/64 Scope:Link
    UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets: 355 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 frame: 0
    TX packets: 239 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0
    collisions: 0 txqueuelen: 1000
    RX bytes: 62949 (61.4 KiB) TX bytes: 43192 (41.1 KiB)
    Interrupt: 11 Base address: 0xa000

    lo

    Link encap: Local Laoopback
    inet addr: 127.0 0.1 Mask 255.0.0.0
    inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets: 0 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 frame: 0
    TX packets: 0 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0
    collisions: 0 txqueuelen: 1000
    RX bytes: 0 TX bytes: 0

    and whan i do cat /etc/resolv.conf in root i get

    nameserver 58.69.XXX.XX
    nameserver 58.69.XXX.XXX (had to hide the last numbers, :P)

    and when i try to ping it says network unreachable.

    i have read many people having trouble with feisty but mainly their problem is wireless related or web browser related, my problem is totally no access to internet, i would really appreciate any assistance or help, thanks in advance.

    Let's do a little test first. Can you get to your router's WEB Admin interface?

        The ISP will only give you settings for the external interface of the router. Almost certainly the netmask should be 255.255.255.0. Ultimate test is: can you ping your router's (internal) IP address? (Also, .175 seems odd for a broadcast address.)

        Gateway should be set to the (internal) IP address of your router.

        Both of these things should be automatic when your computer gets its IP address from your router...

          Re: no connection in Feisty

          In addition to what JamesM has posted, it would be useful to know about the (ethernet) network settings of at least one of your Windoze boxes (in particular: IP, subnet and gateway addresses as specified there ...).

            but guys i havent entered any of these parameters, they are all automatically recevied by the computer itself, and the thing is the other computers are running on the same settings and working perfectly well (winxp)
