Remote login anyone?

So i just discovered how awesome remote login could be today...if i could get it to work! After googling it many times and reading many pages, i found one that told me how to do it in Kubuntu and have got it so the system i want to connect to shows up in the XDMCP connection window at login. BUT when i click on the remote system, and click accept, the screen flickers a bit then goes black and sits with an X mouse head up for a while then decided it can't do what i asked and just goes back to the login window.

any suggestions?

Since there are so many ways to log in remotely to a Linux box, it would be helpful if you could post a link to the howto you followed and also say exactly what you require.

got it sorted. just installed the GNOME desktop on top of kubuntu and it configures it all for you nice and simple through System > Administration > Login Window > Remote. easy. then i can choose which session i want to use upon logging into the remote system.
