    Samba still buggy

I just recieved this from launchpad:
For good order: I noticed Samba (and friends) 3.0.24-2ubuntu1.1 slipping
into Feisty yesterday (coming from 3.0.24-2ubuntu1) and can confirm that
the problem still exists in this update.

Interestingly enough, the very same stuff (Samba 3.0.24) works flawlessly on an "untainted", plain Debian 4.0 / KDE 3.5.6 system ... go figure :P

Also interesting, is that this bug does not affect all samba users. I have never had the problem. Everything works. The only thing is, I have never changed any settings on my shared folders under the "Advanced" tab.

As far as I can tell from "playing off" Kubuntu 07.04 against plain Debian 4.0, the bug is directly related to Kubuntu's own "System Settings" - for neither working with KDE's own Control Center nor, as I'm used to do it, "nano-ing" configurations has made the bug in question (re-) appear on any of my systems so far.

          Re: Samba still buggy

I have always been under the impression that Samba is Samba, whether it's run on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xandros, Debian, Damn Small Linux, or whatever other distribution you can think of. It's a mature program that has been working flawlessly for many years. Am I wrong about this? Is the version that's included in Feisty Fawn different from the version that was included in Edgy?

Yes and no ... as, from my experience, core Samba is indeed behaving well - as long as you stay away from "helper tools" (in particular those "improved" by the (K)Ubunties ...).

Well...this says a bit as well:
You're right, KDE should be blamed for misconfiguring samba.

But samba should kindfully ignore OBVIOUS misconfiguration!
(Or would "no" ever be judged a valid network path to a CIFS share?)

Well... you can have a computer called "no", can't you ? .

                    Just joking.
