Problem with Dell laptop wireless [Solved]

Hi everyone, I just recently installed Kubuntu and everything seems great so far. As for my problem, I'm using a Dell Latitude 120L laptop and I'm having problems with my built in wireless. I check the system settings as it is installed on my computer as eth1, but I can't activate it or either reactivate it through the Fn+F2 Key.
If anyone has the same problem and fixed theirs, please help me in any details or any tutorials that could help.

    Thanks again.

When you check in System Settings is it "enabled"? If not, you need to hit the administrator button to do so.

Also, you will need to enter your settings. Use administrator mode and then select "configure interface". Enter your connection settings there.

Hit "apply" and you should get a connection.

Run Kwifimanager minimised in the taskbar to get a visible sign that you have a connection.

    Let us know what happens.

I've tried that already as I mentioned even when I try to activate my wireless card, it will automatically turn itself off anyways. Also when trying to use the function key to turn on the wireless it never does anything at all.

        What card is it please?

You say it "turns itself off" . Is the card showing as "disabled" in system settings? Do you get any messages on it?

So far as the function key is concerned, on my Dell 630m it turns the wireless on and off but, confusingly, the LED doesn't work for me.

Hello guys. I have a Dell Latitude D810. I've never been able to get Dell Wireless cards working, even with their Drivers and NDISWRAPPER. The card I have in it is a Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLAN Mini-PCI Card, which is a Broadcom device BCMWL5. If you all get a fix for that, please let me know!

            Hi

You might want to take a look here

            https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam

There are a couple of folks testing the D810 although on older (k)ubuntu versions.

If you can't get it working do you have a PCMCIA slot? If so, I do know that the Belkin F5D7010 works

            Good luck!

Actually I managed to fix my problem, thanks to your link I decided to change from Kubuntu to Ubuntu. Ubuntu works wonders for my laptop instead and my wireless works flawlessly now. Thank you everyone for your support.

Re: Problem with Dell laptop wireless [Solved]

I expect that ubuntu won't use knetworkmanager which, according to many posts here, would appear to be at the root of many wireless problems.

That may be true for some, but as I said for mine, I've never been able to get it working on any version of Kubuntu using all the wireless tools (alone and various combinations) the Kubuntu/KDE has to offer. Maybe I'll try the Ubuntu Live CD and see what it does.

If I remember correctly, the laptops tested have a different wireless card to yours.
