I found a great howto on installing the ralink wireless cards and it works perfectly using the ralink drivers http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=415693, however it didnt work out of the box with kubuntu, so hopefully one day that will be solved. I also uninstalled network-manager which was advised as well.
I have a question regarding collisions and wireless. I find that in ifconfig my wireless connection comes up with a lot of collisions. Is this normal? I cant say that I have ever got them on a LAN connection.
