    cannot switch to ad-hoc mode!?

    Hello!
    I can't switch my wifi card in ad-hoc mode.
    I made
    sudo iwconfig ath0 mode ad-hoc
    reply was:
    Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
    SET failed on device ath0; Invalid argument

    System spec:

    product: Atheros Communications
    phisical id: 0
    bus info: pci@06:00.0
    configuration: broadcast=yes
    driver=ath_pci
    driverversion= 0.9.4.5 (0.9.3)
    multicast= yes

    ifconfig returns
    ath0 Linkencap: Ethernet Hw................

    someone could tell me what are wifi and ath0:avah ??
    Why There isn't eth1 like my other pc
    I readed something about a virtual interface...and daemon avahi...but nothing of very useful!

    The card functions perfectly in managed mode...
    The pc is a notebook VGN-N21S

    Please help!
    Thank's in advance. H4p0

    I guess this is because the correct way to set mode is

    iwconfig ath0 mode Ad-Hoc (mode is case sensitive afaik)

    I think you should read the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avahi_(software)

    and maybe the following two if you wish:

    http://avahi.org/wiki/AboutAvahi
    http://www.zeroconf.org/

    Avahi daemon is a lot more useful than you think, as it provides automagic configuration of (among other) network devices.

        Connect My laptop (Atheros card) to my Desktop (BCM43XX)

        YEAHH!!
        I finally made it!
        command

        #wlanconfig ath0 destroy
        #wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode Ad-Hoc

        now I finally set up my card in Ad-Hoc mode but
        doesn't seem to work...I receive some packet and I transmit but
        the session doesn't comes up

        iwconfig seems ok
        device looks to be associated...
        but I cannot ping between two pczz...

        DOH!
