    wireless hardware advice

I am looking to setup a wireless network for a friend and I would like some hardware recommendations for kubuntu. He needs both router and nic card, so I have options. Anybody?

Here's a few howtos' including compatible hardware with a few instructions (sponsored by HP):

As for your router, any wireless routers would do but Linksys WRT54G is a hacker favorite.
The link below is the Linksys Tech Support page where you could choose a suitable wireless router for you. You could also download their manuals if you need a more detailed technical specifications.

      Hello,
For a router anything will do, but try to avoid D-Link, because they seem to have problems, especially with linux. This is because D-Link web interface sucks and you may have problems accessing it with any browser different than IE (I had a D-Link for a few days and experienced difficulty with connecting to the routers' web interface. Also, it was overheating). I'll recommend either Linksys (WRT54G is a good choice, since it has a linux firmware inside) or a US Robotics (I have it myself and never had a single problem).

Speaking about a wireless NIC, You should try getting something that has native drivers on linux. In my opinion, the best choice is something based on Atheros chipset, such as ZyXel G-170S.
