    Re: reinstalling Kubuntu 7.10

    Here's my problem,

    Awhile back I tried to upgrade Kubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 through package manager had all kinds of problems and could'nt boot Kubuntu anymore. I was dual booting Vista and Kubuntu so I used Vista dvd to restore windows bootloader and was successful.

    Now I have a Ubuntu 7.10 cd and a Kubuntu 7.10 cd downloaded from the internet. I don't know if Kubuntu is still on my hard drive. Should i try to install Kubuntu 7.10 to see if it will go, or should i try to use Vista to free up more space again and then install Kubuntu?

    Thanks in advance

    There have been so many posts about problems with the Feisty > Gutsy upgrade that I would personally just do the new installation -- at least you can have some confidence that after a short while you'll be done with that part of it.

    Did you have a separate partition for "/home"? If so, you can just leave it as-is and mount it while installing the new OS. If not, then you might need to do some maneuvering to get your data saved off, prior to a new installation. If there is important data stranded on the Linux side, you can boot a Live CD and copy it off to a thumb drive, or (less efficient) you can make an appropriately-sized partition with GParted, format it, and then copy data over there for safekeeping until you have installed the new OS.

    How much space is allocated for your Linux system?

      And how much space is Vista taking? Personally, I'd boot into Vista and use its native volume manager to shrink Vista down as small as it will allow. This gives you the maximum amount of drive space for Linux. Note: If you are using Vistas Restore function, you want to disable it and delete any restore points you created. If you don't you won't be able to recover very much disk space.
      Windows no longer obstructs my view.

        Re: reinstalling Kubuntu 7.10

        Thanks you Guys,

        I deleted the kubuntu partitions through Vista and re-installed Kubuntu 7.10 this is the setup:

        C:= 47.74 GB NTFS

        Kubuntu:
        25.64 GB
        1.15 GB I'm asuming these two are Ext3 and Swap. It installed fine, it shows I have a live internet connection but Kongeror cant connect to the url i put in the search bar.

        I also have the bare minimum install It says I have firefox but cant load it says its not installed. Cannot install any packages because they are not highligted in Adept package manager. This is very confusing??
